This session will provide hands on time to create your own digital story using some fantastic Web 2.0 tools including Voicethread, Animoto and more!

All Skill Levels - Middle and Elementary
So, you've finally gotten the hang of creating a flipchart and using ActivStudio, let's take it to the next level. How can you create flipcharts specific to District 112 curriculum? What about finding resources from teachers in other Districts who use the same materials? Work smarter, get the most out of your time spent finding and creating flipcharts for your students. Make your lessons come alive by learning to integrate multimedia tools into your lessons and find different online resources, including Promethean Planet, to find ready-made lessons.

Getting to Know your Mac and Basic Troubleshooting
Beginner Level - Middle and Elementary
If you are overwhelmed with all of the new technology and want to get back to basics, this is the session for you. Facilitators will take you through some basic functions of your computer that you may not have known about. Learn to trouble shoot some simple problems to make your mac and your life run a little smoother.

All Skill Levels - Middle and Elementary
Google is taking over the world! Google is much more than a search engine, Google has tons of tools for the educator and their students. Learn what Google has to offer- Google docs, iGoogle, Google custom search, Google reader and Googles more! Participants will be asked to create a gmail account prior to Institute day- See your tech coach for assistance.

Intro to iMovie
Beginner Level - Middle and Elementary
Creating for an authentic audience is a critical 21st century skill. Learn how to make a movie from start to finish along with great ideas for when and where to put this tool to use with the students in your classroom.

iMovie Part Deux
Intermediate & Advanced Levels - Middle and Elementary
Continuation for iMovie from November Institute Day. Participants must consider themselves to be intermediate users of iMovie to attend this session-Bring a camera, cell phone or Photo/Movie CD if you want to use images not stored on your computer.

Integrating the Promethean Board into Your Classroom Centers
All Skill Levels - Elementary Only
The Promethean board doesn't always have to be used for whole group instruction. Learn some great ways to create centers using the Promethean board.

Feedback from November's Institute Day suggested a class be provided for advanced users. This is a session for those who have been using tech on a regular basis and are experimenting with new technologies that they would like to share with other techie colleagues.

Podcasting in the Classroom

MP3 players have become an extra limb for our students. Learn how to put podcasting to work for you! This session will take you through the basics of Garage Band, you will create podcasts from start to finish.

This session is for teachers of World Language, Dual Language and ESL.

Using the Promethean board is a great tool to create an engaged learning environment, but have you begun to integrate the Learner Response System? ActiVotes and ActivExpresssions provide critical information to students and teachers. Join this session to learn how to use LRS on a regular basis in your classroom.

As a teacher in District 112, you have access to many subscription services you may not know about. This session will take you through each of our subscription sites and offer opportunities to explore the possibilities. You will have time to pull resources from these sites for use with your students.

What can I do with my Students in the Computer Lab?
All Skill Levels - Elementary Only
Do you want to get more technology into the hands of your students? Take them to the computer lab! This session will offer many great ideas for easy to facilitate computer lab lessons. Teachers will learn about great resources for quick lessons in the lab.

Wiki with your Students
All Skill Levels - Middle Only
You may know how to access a wiki and use it as a web page, but do you understand how to bring your students in as true collaborators? Learn how to create a classroom wiki with all of your students as users, contributing and collaborating outside the walls of the school building.

ActivInspire Pilot for Current ActivStudio Users *
Advanced Skill Level with Intel Macbook ONLY - Middle and Elementary
ActivStudio has evolved! Learn to use the newest version of Promethean software that integrates resources and learner response systems much more fluidly. Signing up for this session requires a MacBook with ActivInspire installed.
*Please put in a school dude request to have the software installed by a tech coach or tech specialist.

  • We are unable to offer all courses at both Middle school and Elementary. This is due to facilitator limitations. If you are able to lead or co-facilitate a session, please click here.
  • All sessions are available to certified and classified staff
  • Please bring your laptop with you to Institute Day.
  • Classified staff are asked to check out a laptop from their home school the night prior to institute day.
  • Some courses are for specific skill levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), others are open to all (All Levels)
